DOTs head for Athens

The 2nd DOT study visit will be to Athens from January 16-20th 2012. The purpose of the visit is to look at Employability Support Programmes in the host country, see whether they can be transferred to the UK and what lessons we can learn. Over the three days we plan to look at: the overall situation regarding employment support in the host country; how they use IT to support employability; how they use non IT interventions; the role of Mentors and other support available; how individuals receive IT knowledge and skills to become ready for work. The visit will also give us a chance to explain and promote Making IT Personal: Joining the DOTs to the host organisations.

The three days will comprise a mixture of discussions, visits, seminars and presentations, meetings and dialogue with those on the programmes and those delivering them. By the end of the visit our DOTs will have learnt about the cultural and real life issues that people seeking employment in Greece face. We intend this to be a very positive mixture of learning opportunities and contact with practitioners.

Reflections on the visit for the project website will follow shortly after our return.
