Join the DOTs

If you’re always helping people you know at home or at work with their mobiles, computers or broadband, you have a skill – so why not get recognised for it?

You could join up to become a DOT – a Digital Outreach Trainer – and get the chance to take your skill one step further and gain a free qualification to add to your CV.

To become an approved DOT, you just need to volunteer to give informal IT advice to people you know and record the help you give in an online diary. You get access to free training materials, plus some dedicated one-to-one support from your own online tutor. All free of charge if you live or work in South Yorkshire!

You don’t have to be an expert – you just need to enjoy using technologies and the web, and share that enjoyment with others.

It’s up to you how much time you volunteer and when. It depends on who needs help and how much time you’ve got to spare.

And you’re not on your own – you’ll be part of an online DOT community where you can share your experiences and find out a bunch of handy tips in return, as well as get help with any problems.

Then, once you’re up and running as a DOT, you’ll find there are lots of other opportunities that could come your way – to try out more learning, perhaps do another qualification, meet like-minded people and make a difference in your community at home and at work.
